Clarity, Upfront: What to Expect When Working with a Designer

Whether you're planning a one-room refresh or a custom joinery project, having a clear sense of pricing can make decisions feel more grounded. The launch of the new Price Guide page is designed to offer just that — a transparent overview of available interior design services, what's typically included, and pricing ranges to use as a reference.

No two projects are ever the same, so you'll still receive a tailored quote to suit your specific needs, style, and scope. But this guide is here to give you a starting point — a framework that makes the next steps feel easier.

Fees for the Design Phases

The page breaks down our two-phase process, which applies to most interior design services:

Phase 1 – Concept Phase

The design process begins by exploring ideas and possibilities, which are then developed into clear design concepts and functional layout plans tailored to the space. To establish a cohesive and thoughtful direction, layout options are reviewed, and curated samples of finishes, fabrics, materials, and colours are considered — gradually refined into final selections.

Fees for this stage are confirmed following the initial consultation and are based on the scope outlined in the design brief. The Concept Phase is quoted as a fixed fee, offering clarity and confidence from the outset.

Phase 2 – Final Design

Once the concept is approved, the project progresses into a more detailed phase. This stage involves refining layouts, confirming materials, coordinating with trades, and addressing any on-site considerations as the design is brought to life.

Due to the varied nature of this phase, services are charged at an hourly rate. Some projects may require minimal input, while others—particularly those involving custom details or ongoing site involvement—may need more in-depth support. Time is tracked transparently, with regular updates provided to maintain clarity throughout the process.

Why Have a Price Guide?

Hiring a designer is a personal decision, and often one that comes with a lot of unknowns. This guide was created to make that step feel more informed — giving you a clearer understanding of how things work, what to expect, and where you might start.

Design isn’t just about making things look beautiful. It’s about shaping a space that feels right for you — how it functions, how it flows, and how it supports your day-to-day life. Understanding how design is priced is just one piece of that puzzle, but it’s a powerful one. And when handled with transparency and care, it can make the entire process feel more collaborative, considered, and tailored from the very beginning.
